The breathtaking beauty of Lake Tahoe is known worldwide, but that beauty is fading. The basin is an ecosystem under considerable stress.
For 40 years, Charles Goldman and his colleagues at the University of California, Davis, Tahoe Research Group devoted their work to understanding the complex dynamics between the lake and the surrounding basin. They have recently been joined by scientists from the University of Nevada, Reno, the U.S. Forest Service, the U.S. Geological Survey and the Nevada Desert Research Institute.Together, they have assembled a volume of knowledge about that ecosystem that is unparalleled in environmental studies.
So vast is the data set that it now serves as the foundation for planning and management throughout the basin.
