Economic Impact Report: Student and Visitor Impacts

Table: 24,867 UC Davis students spent over $180 million in FY 2001-02UC Davis students and campus visitors contributed more than $450 million to the capital region's economy in 2001-02, based on spending of $189 million.

Student and visitor spending generated more than 2,600 jobs in the capital region.

About 1.8 million people visited the UC Davis campus in 2001-02, spending approximately $36 million in the city of Davis--a conservative estimate of $20 per visitor.

Each year, more than 4,100 students enroll in service-learning courses that place them in volunteer roles throughout the community.

University visitors accounted for an estimated 48,600 room-nights at hotels in the city of Davis.

Every dollar spent by UC Davis grows to return more than $1.75 to California.
UC Davis contributed at least $2.7 billion to the California economy in 2001-02.
For every state dollar invested in UC Davis, the state of California got at least $5 in return.
After state government, UC Davis is the largest employer in the Sacramento region with nearly 29,000 workers.
UC Davis has generated 45,000 jobs for the state of California — 34,000 in the Sacramento region alone.
