RSS News Feeds
What is RSS?
RSS, which stands for Really Simple Syndication, is a standard for sharing updates to Web content without requiring you to constantly check a Web site to see what's new. Content providers such as the UC Davis News Service supply feeds containing the latest news, events, or blog posts. You can then subscribe to these feeds in an RSS reader (sometimes called a "news reader" or "aggregator") to have updates brought to you without having to visit a single Web site.
How do I read an RSS feed?
To read an RSS news feed, you'll need an RSS reader.
Web-based readers
You can keep track of your RSS subscriptions without downloading any software at all. After you create your custom feed, we'll provide one-click subscription buttons to your custom feed for many major Web-based RSS readers.
Downloadable readers
A downloaded reader gives you functionality you may be used to in an e-mail client such as Microsoft Outlook or Entourage.
- NetNewsWire (Mac OS X)
- FeedDemon (Windows)
- FeedExplorer (Windows)
